Technology awards for TIMEX
23 Jul 2010

The Timex Ironman Sleek 150-Lap watch collection with TapScreen Technology, a revolutionary collection of precision sports timing instruments that conveniently respond to an athlete’s touch, has been awarded the Runner’s World ispo 2010 Award for Technology.
The innovative collection has three signature elements – TapScreen Technology, Target time pacer, and Labelled interval timers which allow athletes to stay focused on performance, while still taking laps and receiving feedback on pace. Revolutionary technology allows users to easily activate the lap feature by “tapping” anywhere on the timepiece’s face, rather than having to locate and push buttons mid-stride.
The Timex TapScreen watches, in both ladies and gents styles, will be available in New Zealand from selected jewellers and sport stores. Call 0508 566 300 for further details.

TIMEX® Collection Wins Runner’s World ispo 2010 Award for “Technology”
Innovative collection helps athletes “tap” into elevated performance. Timex, a leader in outdoor and sports performance timepieces, announced that the Timex® Ironman® Sleek™ 150-Lap watch with TapScreen™ Technology, a revolutionary collection of precision sports timing instruments that conveniently responds to an athlete’s touch, has been awarded the Runner’s World ispo 2010 Award for Technology.
“The Timex Ironman Sleek 150-Lap with TapScreen Technology redefines how athletes interact with their timepieces in training and competition,” said Heberto Calves, vice president of marketing at Timex. "Timex is honoured and pleased to be recognized by Runner’s World at ispo 2010.”
The award was presented by Runner’s World Germany editor Urs Weber, to Timex product manager Adriana Espinosa, at the Runner’s World suite during ispo Winter 2010.
“The innovative collection’s three signature elements – TapScreen Technology, Target time pacer, and Labelled interval timers – won us over,” Weber said. “These innovative features allow athletes to stay focused on performance, while still taking laps and receiving feedback on pace.”
The collection’s revolutionary TapScreen™ Technology allows users to easily activate the lap feature by “tapping” anywhere on the timepiece’s face, rather than having to locate and push buttons mid-stride.
The Target time pacer delivers distinct audible alerts, indicating if the runner is on pace, slow or fast, in addition to displaying the time ahead or behind pace. This allows athletes to adjust their speed accordingly and adhere to race day strategy.
The 16 interval timers are labelled with intuitive names such as warm, slow, med, fast and cool, making complex interval workouts automatic and effortless. The watch stores up to three separate interval workout programs at once, allowing athletes to utilize customized routines throughout their training programs.
The collection’s strong, modern design is engineered to optimize style, ease-of-use and comfort. The watch face features a large-digit display and curved lens for easy viewing and tapping, and the durable, muscle-lined strap minimizes skin contact and optimizes ventilation during strenuous activity.
The Timex Ironman Sleek 150-Lap with TapScreen Technology is the latest addition to Timex’s powerful 150-lap series, a favourite within the global performance sports community. The collection will be available in a variety of men’s and women’s styles, marking the first time a 150-lap collection with such advanced sports timing benefits and large, easy-to-read digits will be available in styles designed specifically with women in mind.
The collection is available in several styles, and boasts the following features and benefits:
• TapScreen™ Technology, offering effortless access to advanced lap features; • Target Time Pacer, delivering distinct audible alerts and advising of pace; • 16 labelled Interval timers, making complex interval workouts easy and efficient; • Lap management system, providing in-depth access to 150 laps of dated workouts; • Hydration and nutrition alarms, reminding the user to refuel at regular intervals; • 100-hour chronograph; • 24-hour countdown timer; • Three customizable alarms with five-minute back-up alarm; • Dual time zone abilities for travel convenience; • Water-resistant to 100 meters; • Indiglo® night-light with Night-Mode® feature
The collection was perfected with the help of extensive real-world testing by the Timex Multisport Team, a group of 49 elite athletes who compete in major multisport events worldwide, including Ironman and Xterra races and the ING New York City Marathon. The Timex Ironman Sleek 150-Lap with TapScreen Technology will be available for purchase at selected sports stores and watch retailers throughout New Zealand.
